Winter Wear
28 November 2009

Okay, I've got my winter wear looks down now. Thanks to weardrobe and this week's contest (winter wear, the prize is for $500!!! What?!) I now have options for what to wear on the outside! Now we'll see if I actually hold up that end of the bargain... usually I get super lazy (AND COLD) and double up on all of my layers, and mismatch scarves and hats etc in my hurry to get dressed in the mornings. But this contest makes me WANT to look more fashionable. I've got all of these great coats now (thanks thrift stores!) and so few places to wear them! Well anywho, I've at least got the little bloggy to show them off! (if you feel so inclined, you can go to my Flickr to read more about each coat)

Bring it on, winter!

the last week, in outfits
24 November 2009

Hey guys, I hate to sound like a broken record, but this last week has been TOTALLY busy for me. I realized last night that I hadnt even made a November 09 folder for my wardrobe remixes yet! I have photographed my outfits occasionally, but not posted them. So here they are, plus a little bit of extra photographic evidence from my week. (deets available on my Flickr, as usual).

(That last picture is of a drawing that my three-year old cousin Anders did, I really wanted to take it home with me!!) In other more current news, I will be having two Thanksgivings this Thursday, and Alex and I will be babysitting two kitties! We love it when we get to babysit them... Then I have lots of things to do like CLEAN our house, since I havent done that in weeks, get my roots dyed (also been too long!), and make some kind of big purchase with all of the overtime I've been getting (I'm thinking a new pair of Frye boots, but I havent decided for sure yet...). I am sure I will have some great updates for you as soon as all of this blows over. Peace out!

this is where ill be all weekend. look for me!

halloween partyyyy
09 November 2009

I know this is belated. I've been so busy this last week or so preparing for the MCAD Art Sale! (among other things) Its basically my job to organize this time of year, so I've been distracted to say the least. Anywho, here was my lovely little Halloween in a residential neighborhood of north Minneapolis, with my dear friends. Thanks Angie!

I was Athena, Alex was a Wii-mote. How spectacular, dont you think!

I even got him to do a wardrobe "wii"mix before we left! Unfortunately, since I am always behind the camera, I only got a blurry cranky-face picture of my costume... but dont you love my amazing thrift store dress?

too much change
07 November 2009

Everything I love about Uptown seems to be changing. And not for the better, recently. I dont know about you guys, but dont you totally mourn when a store or restaurant you've always loved in your area closes down? Well in this case, the whole Uptown area seems to be moving towards the end of an era. Shiny new multi-level retail buildings everywhere, are replacing old landmarks.

Several of Uptown's gems have recently closed. First it was Figlio's restuarant (picture above from chacha bella on Flickr), which had been there for 20 years and almost single-handedly begun Uptown's ascent into hot spot territory. It is going to reopen as a new restaurant, care of the infamous parasol restaurant company...

Next was the legendary Uptown Bar, which fueled the underground music scene in Minneapolis in the 80's (and beyond). And actually, upon going to their website, I just found out that it has been around since the 1930's! You can see how their outdoor seating was taken over by more mall in the second picture. It closed last weekend.

And now today I've heard that the iconic Uptown Rainbow Foods, with its bowling-alley signage that made it unique, is closing to make way for a huge, more upscale store to open in 2011.

I've only ever shopped at this grocery store since moving to Minneapolis in college. I dont know what I will do now... It is a very sad day, a sad year really for Uptown.
